Government policies towards new immigrants

In view of the size of the community, the government launched and runs several programmes to help these new immigrants adapt to the environment in Hong Kong.

For instance, Home Affairs Department published the Service Handbook for New Arrivals in Simplified and Traditional Chinese with a view to providing new arrivals with more service-related information to facilitate their early integration into the local community.

The Department also cooperates with other charity / organizations to provide services for the newly arrived.

The Labour Department provides career talks and counter service specifically for new immigrants to help them find jobs in Hong Kong.

The Education Bureau has customised different programmes for the new arrival children to adapt to the learning environment in Hong Kong, e.g. Full-time Initiation Programme and Induction Programme by different organizations and schools. Grants are also given to schools that admit newly arrived children for launching any supportive programmes.
